Band, just to remind you some changes about the chalet Aloha Loyang Garden Terrace E on 15/6/11 (Wed) ~ 17/6/11 (Fri).

We shall meet at Jurong East MRT Interchange outside where POPULAR Bookstore used to be at 1.15pm (15/6/11). We will leave Jurong East at 1.30pm sharp. Late-comers will have to inform the majors and travel down to the chalet yourself.

Please be noted that there will be BBQ on the 2nd night (16/6/11) and that will be the only meal that will be taken care of. Therefore, you will have to bring enough money for you to buy food for the 3D2N. (The food there can be quite expensive.)

You might need to bring the following items

Causal clothes and undergarments for 3D2N
Towel
Toiletries
Medicine (important)
Money for 3D2N
Sleeping Bag (if not you might be sleeping on the floor)

Hey everyone! You guys are still encouraged to go for the chalet because its once per 2 years! Its a good chance for you guys to bond together! And its nothing like the band camps! There will be games time and free and easy time for you all to interact with each other! The 1st day(15/6) afternoon will have games and night will be your free and easy time! 2nd day(16/6) will be free and easy in morning, games in afternoon and BBQ in the night! After praticising for so many months, we have finally come to a end of 2011 SYF with a Silver. Even thought we did not manage to clinch a GOLD, we managed to maintain a Silver. And the Sec 4s are stepping down. You might want to say something to your seniors and thank them for the hard work they had put in for the past 4 years and teaching you too. Hope that we could bring Hua Yi Concert Band to the next peak! HYCB ftw~ <3

Hello band, this post is to remind you of what to bring and wear tomorrow. Also there is some changes in some of the things i've mentioned earlier on. So i need all of you to pass this message down if possible.

Report in:
-White band t-shirt (in the case if you don't have, school pe t shirt)
-Band uniform bottom, girls: skirt boys: pants
-White shoe, heels/black shoe (This is your choice)

Bring:
-Full band uniform
-skin colour pantyhose (for girls)
-Black socks ( for guys ) No ankle socks
-heels/black shoe

*Remember to cut your fingernails . If anyone whose nails are not cut, you will use MY nail clipper and cut it. if you feel disgusted, then cut it now!

Girls, please, no fringes, except for those special cases. And during performance, no usage of handphones, no winking or showing of any other facial expression with friends, no talking, no whispering. BE SERIOUS

Although many of us here are very angry and disatisfied with the 15 minutes performance, but lets just do our best and show others what we've got.

Good luck to all the soloist! and band, be more sporty! Do the gimmicks properly! And report in the band room by 7 tomorrow. Bring along a small bag to put all the things you need to bring to the concert hall. Lunch is provided.

Everyone today is New Year's Eve hope you all have a good New Year and after that we all will need to prepare for the huayi public concert and most importantly SYF. Let's do our best and try to get a gold this year. This is the last SYF for the sec 4 batch so let do our best and remember to practice at home with your instruments.

Hello band members, for those who does know what kind of shoe to buy, please take a look at the pictures on top. For the girls,

No pointed heels
No flats
Must be FULL black!

For the guys,

Material must be something like the one at the top.
NO SNEAKERS.
Must be FULL BLACK

For the girls, wear skin pantyhose (Stockings) and black socks for the guys, ( no ankle socks!!!!!)

Also, remember to bring along some food in case you get hungry during the few hours. You are not allowed to go buy any food or wander around.

Christmas “Party”

We will be celebrating christmas together after the performance when we reach back in school. However we'll be haing log cakes and some juices at the mama shop area opposite the school. Every band members are invited to join if you can. It is not compulsory, so if your parents does not allow, den do NOT come. You can choose whether you want to come too.

Band,

I know many of you joined band because of your friends or whatever reason. Also,many of you have yet to grow an interest in your instrument, in music and in band. But whatever the reason is, you still have to do your marching properly. You were given a choice to choose your CCA. Since you've chosen band, den you have to do things that a band should do, and to do it right. This is your job. For secondary school band, SYF is important. But to be able to participate in the SYF, you have to be able to march. We have to send a video of you guys marching to the MOE and then they'll decide whether to reject or to approve. If you get rejected, you CANNOT participate in the SYF. If we continue with this kind of result, the school will just introduce a new CCA, Chinese Orchestra. When you have Chinese Orchestra, you'll be competing with them for recruits, and worse, share the band room with them. Then our band will just die off. It will not affect me as i will be already stepping down when such things happen. However, the juniors will be affected. You will never enjoy your band life as much as now. If that is what you want, then continue with that attitude. We can be the first batch that does not participate in the SYF.

Sec 3s, you guys have experienced this before. You are the oldest batch. You guys did better than the rest in marching. However, you did not do as well as before. When we were all in sec 1, doing the filming. Recall, were we doing much much better? I hope you guys will take the initiative to guide the juniors. I believe you guys are mature and understands the importance of marching.

Sec 1 and 2, you guys are usually the one causing all the troubles during the marching. You are not serious about marching. However i do not blame you as you are still inexperienced and still getting used to this. But still, it'd been a year and we already had alot of marching sessions. If you have been serious during those sessions, then there wouldn't be so much troubles and problems. You guys did not do your best, i can tell. I believe there is still alot of rooms for improvement. I DO NOT believe your standard is this low. Prove to me that you can do better. There is nothing that difficult about marching. The biggest problem you guys have is, not checking of dressing. Sweeling and nicholas have been coming back alot alot of times to help us in marching despite the fact that they'd already stepped down. DO NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM.

I do not wish to scold you, neither does any of the other majors and the ex-majors. We wish you all to have an enjoyable band life. But you all are really making things difficult for yourself, us, mr tan and our teachers in charge. Step into all our shoe and think for us. You do not have much time left to prepare for SYF, let alone marching. Let's finish this once and for all, do your best.

Dear Band,

The past three days have been eventful. I believe most of you have had a great time bonding with each other. You all have practiced hard and I hope that you will keep up with the practice as practice is the key to success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank some people for their selfless contributions towards the band. Our Drum Majors, SweeLing, for all the guidance and management she has given to me and the band. She has never failed to contribute her best in the interest of the band. And ChuanJie for all the enthusiasm towards the activities organised. I'd also like to thank the other committee members of 2009/2010 who have been working hard to enable the band to progress further in the past year.

Being a Band Major was a wonderful experience. It was tough to adapt to the busy life of a major at first. But I took it as a positive challenge and persevered. Organising outings, chalets and camps has been really fun. It really enlightens me to see the bonding between the members. I hope that with all these bonding activities organised, the band will push forward as one. Only then would you see your 'fruits of labour' at the end of the day.

No doubt that there are times when things just don't go the right way for me and the other leaders in the band. It served as a challenge for us to gain experience and manage things better. From tuning your instruments properly to not speeding up while marching on the spot. The aim was to do it right. And it really relieves us to see the band putting in effort to work on that.

Music does not end with band. You can't learn everything about music in band. As band members, it's our responsibility to do the research ourselves in order to see improvements. This applies to any other fields of activities in reality. Be it sports or the arts, knowledge will enable us to excel further and be a step ahead of others. All it takes is a little self-initiative. Never be afraid to voice out your views. Your next goal is to see satisfying results for SYF 2011. It is going to be a thrilling "Ride", so keep the anticipation coming.

To the Sec 1s:

It has been 6 months since you all are exposed to band and to music. Hopefully, being a band member has been a wonderful experience for all of you. I know that it's tiring to come for practice 2 to 3 times every week, even during the holidays. But I hope you all will understand that it is very important as a musician and not to take it as a burden. I see that some of you show anticipation towards practice and it's really a good thing. You won't know how relieving it is to the seniors when they see such energy from you guys. Maybe a few years down the road, you will. All the best for working hard and do me proud.

To the Sec 2s:

The most enthusiastic and committed batch of members yet. It's good to see that you guys do not skip practice for no good reasons. I get lots of participation from you all and could see that most of you are willing to learn and improve yourself. In fact, some of you did research in music of your own which really motivates me to encourage more people into the world of music. Keep up the good work and stay committed. Conducting marching for you all was fun and you guys really surprised me with your pace of learning. This shows that all of you are capable of progressing much further. Persevere through the tough times and you'll have a promising future. Never hesitate to ask. Ask, learn and improve. Do me proud.

To the Sec 3s:

As seniors of the band, I'd expect to see you all as role models for the freshmen and sophomore. You are the most experienced batch of members. You went through performances and competition. So do learn from what you have went through and teach the juniors all they have to know. The competition piece has very much been selected. So put in all your efforts into it. I would not want you to be the cause of the slow progress in the Sec 1s as well. Similarly, ask if you don't understand anything. Be it with the music or with your instrument. I hope to see the ambitious attitude in all of you as you work hard for the tallest hurdle you'll face in this life as a band member. I've always said to myself, "Since you've started it, regardless of whether it's voluntary or not, why not just do it the right way?". Since you've picked up the instrument and learnt to read notes, why not bring out the potential in the instrument and yourself? Always tell yourself that you can do better. Being a band member also means that you have talent. Do not feel discouraged when you see others doing better. Take it as a motivation to push yourself further. I have high hopes on every one of you. Do me proud.

To the Sec 4s and 5s:

I'd like to extend my gratitude to all of you for staying committed to the band for so many years. It's something worth giving yourself a pat on back. Thank you so much for all your contributions. I hope you all had the best times of your life as a band member. Staying in the band for so long is really admirable. You all have went through a lot. Performances and performances. Exchanges and exchanges. Finally the overseas trip, outings, camps and SYF. We've encountered numerous setbacks but progressed a lot along the way. All of you have been outstanding role models and I'd definitely credit you for that. Keep the spirit of the band member alive regardless of where you are heading to after your O levels. All the best in your future endeavours.

To the Committee Members and Section Leaders of 2010/2011:

The seniors see potential in you which is why you were selected as the leaders of the band. We all have high hopes on you. I hope that the years of playing in the band has built a strong passion for music within all of you. Me, together with the ex-committee members have done our part for the band. So now, it's your turn to do so, your turn to shine. Keep the band as united as possible. Only then would you be able to overcome thick and thin together. Regardless of whether the band would be a big or small group, as long as there's unity, there would be strength. Seek co-operation from one another and keep the flame alive. The band is depending on all of you. Do me, the teacher-in-charge(s), the school and Mr Tan proud. With that, I'll leave the band under your guidance, under your management, under your mace and under your baton.

I will never forget every single one of you who has made an effort to create an impression in my life as a band member in your own ways. Don't forget me as well. I'm very honoured to be given this opportunity to lead the band.

i hope that everybody has enjoyed this camp and that the band has become more bonded. The secondary four and five members have stepped down, so there's no more people to guide anymore. so, secondary threes, you guys have to take over the role to teach your juniors. i can see that all of you are fast learners, it is only a matter of whether you want to do it or not. like i've said in my speech just now, music is like maths. besides both starting with the letter 'M' , both also requires constant practicing in order to perform well. take each criticism as a form of motivitation to push you to a higher standard.

sec ones, you guys will determine whether will we be changing our competition piece or not. so, keep practicing. do not give up easily because the pieces of diffcult. only losers give up.

sec 2 and 3, all of you are already seniors. please help your juniors with their instruments. remember, a band requires team work and bonding, and that is why we organised outings and camps. also, trust is also another key point for the band to play well. and lastly, discipline. if you're well disciplined enough to practice almost everyday, you'll definately become a lot better and this allows mr tan to teach us easier as you are clear of your parts. only with these four, then the band will be able to play well and being brought to a higher standard.

committee members, section leaders and assistant committee members and section leaders, all of your are chosen for the post as i believe that your previous post members have faith in you. so, carry out the work properly, do not disappoint them. when given jobs to do, do it properly. it may not be perfect, but aim to do it near perfect.

oh ya, please listen to instructions given. listen to your majors and mr tan. always put yourself in other people's shoe. how would you feel if someone ignores you when you're talking. cooperation is seriously needed so that the discipline can be brought to a higher level.

i think my speech just now was quite impromptu, hence i posted this and hope someone reads it and may be help a little. so with that, i end my 'speech' here. ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR SYF NEXT YEAR!! remember, take each criticism as a form of motivation and practice your instrument almost everyday to see progression.

Main Band Members, please remember to bring your full band uniform. For those who have not gotten your black shoes, please get it by tomorrow. Leather black shoes and black socks (Above ankle length) for the boys and classic black heels (No pointed ones) for the girls. No shopping heels, sports shoe or flats. It should look something like the one below. All Sec 2s, please make your way to the bandroom by 12.50PM on Friday for fiting of your blazers. Look for the Wardrobe Master/Mistress when you get there.
