Attention @ 10:31 PM

To All Sec 3 and Graduating Members,

Please confirm with me who wants the Alumni windbreaker AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you guys continue to delay, I think you guys can forget about the idea of getting the windbreaker before you leave the school.

The price for this year is $34 and it's cheaper than the first sweater we had. The first batch of jacket we purchase was $38 per piece. If the alumni’s can pay for the first jacket, I don't see why you guys have problem paying $34. I can guarantee the quality this time is better. In fact the previous jacket's quality considered good.

This year the jacket will be open to ALL sec 3 and 4/5 members. As the person who is helping us making the jacket required at least 40 pieces. So, to reach the number, I added the Sec 3 into the list.

If by 17th June 2007, I still got no news by the person who is in-charge, Pei Qi, I take it as you guys are not interested with the windbreaker and the idea will be cancelled.

You guys are not forced to buy. If you are not interested, we won't force you.

Secondly, there will be a hatc[H] chalet 2007 during the December holiday. The date for the chalet will be between 23rd to 30th December 2007. The price per person, venue, date and time will be confirmed by September. I will need ALL section leaders to spread the news to the section mates and if more than half of the band mates are interested, the plan will go on.

Chalet Committee is needed too. If anyone of you who are interested to organise the chalet together with me and some of the alumni’s, please email me your name, contact number and which level (e.g Secondary 1) to tbc_rulez2002@hotmail.com/ leave me an SMS/ inform me in MSN/ tag my blog. Chalet Committee are open to ALL members from Sec 1 to Alumni.

If you guys have any question on the WINDBREAKER or CHALET, kindly contact me.

P.S: Peiqi, please confirm with the members for me and tell me if they still interested. Latest by 17/06/07.

The Band

HuaYiConcertBand was formed in the year 2000 with a strength of more than 40 committed and enthusiastic students. In the past 10 years, the Band gained much support from the school and managed to earn some awards. Perhaps the most memorable achievement came in the year 2001 when the Band won her first bronze medal at the Singapore Youth Festival(SYF) Central Judging.

Though the years, the Band preserved her standard under the direction of Mr Tan Aik Koon, the first principal trumpeter of Singapore Wind Symphony and Braddell Height Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Mr Tan is also the President of the executive committee of Singapore Wind Symphony. To date, the Band has grown to more than double her original strength and has participated in many musical exchanges with other schools. The Band has also given several public performances at places such as MacRitchie Reservoir, Chinese Garden, Istana Park, Pasir Ris Park and Paragon Orchard.

In 2003, Hua Yi Band went to her second SYF and achieved a silver medal. The Band also maintained her honour by achieving her second silver SYF medal in the year 2005. Her third and fourth silver medal was achieved in 2007 and 2009 respectively. However, it is insufficient to bask in the glory of past achievements. The Band adopts the mentality to accept new challenges and continually strive for excellence.

The Conductor
Mr Tan Aik Koon began his musical experience as a pianist when he was in primary school. When he joined his secondary shool's band, he picked up the trumpet under the guidance of members from the British Royal Marine Band. The young enthusiastic trumpeter has never looked back since.

For the past 30 years, Mr Tan has performed extensively as first-chair or lead trumpeter in various concert bands, symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles and studio recordings. In 2000, he branched into full-time band music education and music conducting. With his vast and diverse experience and knowledge, Mr Tan has gained recognition in the music education scene, both locally as well as overseas.

Mr Tan is currently the President of the Executive Committee of Singapore Wind Symphony (3-time Gold Medal Award Winner of World Music Contest) and also the Executive Council Member of the Band Directors' Association of Singapore. Mr Tan is the music director and conductor of Singapore Wind Symphony Youth Winds, Kim Seng Wind Symphony, Mayflower Secondary School Concert Band and our band. In addition, Mr Tan is also the 1st principal trumpeter of Singapore Wind Symphony and Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra.
